Claude’s $200 Max Plan Is Now Called Ultra, and Verified Accounts Lose the Five-Hour Cap

If you pay for Claude’s biggest consumer plan, it has a new name. Anthropic’s help center says Max 20x is now Ultra, and current subscribers move over on their own with no price change.

What’s confirmed. Per Anthropic’s Ultra plan page:

  • Ultra costs $200 a month for web subscriptions. Mobile app pricing can differ.
  • It is monthly only for now.
  • You get 10 times the Pro plan’s weekly usage.
  • Verified accounts no longer have a five-hour limit. Unverified accounts get a temporary limit until verification finishes.
  • A weekly cap still covers all models, plus a separate weekly cap for Fable models.
  • The plan includes monthly Claude API credits and Claude Code.

The Verge reports the smaller Max 5x plan is now simply Max, still at $100 a month.

How to tell if you are verified. Anthropic says it verifies accounts automatically using account and payment history. Open Settings, then Usage. If there is no “Current session” bar, you are verified. Verifying a phone number when you pay does not count and will not lift the limit.

The catch. Anthropic keeps the right to add other caps at its discretion and does not promise uninterrupted service.

Our take. For heavy users, losing the five-hour window is the real change, since long agent runs no longer stall midday. The weekly ceiling is still the limit that decides how much work you get.

What’s real here: a rename plus one meaningful limit change, not a new tier of power.
